It’s All In The Hips – Hogan Power Drill

The use of the hips, and the lower body in general, is an elusive concept for most golfers. Many of us tend to feel like our upper bodies supply most of the power in the swing, but the correct use of the hips can not only create more club head speed, but also allow your upper body to move the club towards the ball on a better path.

The video below is one of the most popular instructional videos on Youtube. Sean Clement is a top instructor in Canada, and has built a huge following via his regular posting of instructional videos on his Youtube channel. His “Hogan Power Drill” is a great way to learn how to correctly utilize the hips, regardless of your swing style.

I will definitely feature more videos from Sean Clement in the future, but if you want to see his other videos, you can view them on his Youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/clemshaw#p/u.

Enjoy!

  1. [...] Body Sequencing: From the video, the order of the body parts on the downswing go; legs, hips, torso, shoulders, arms, and then club. As much as I agree with this, I think trying to monitor all these moving parts while you’re swinging a club can be overwhelming and extremely frustrating.
